Great Start for 2006!

Story and photo’s by Jackie Irwin

Friends reunited, and ignitions ignited as the first round of the Brisbane Motor Cycle Club‘s championship got underway, on what could only be described as a perfect day, although clouds loomed overhead there was no raining on this clubs parade.  It was a fantastic day as 62 riders and 93 bikes turned on a spectacular display of what Vintage Motor cross is all about, Action!

There was a good line up for the first race which started with the Pre 75, 125cc 16 - 49 years.  As the day progressed it became very evident that age does not discriminate on this track, Mitch Semmens, Brian Marshall, Billy Holm, John Wales and Gary Semmens proved that as they battled it out in the Pre 70 all powers all ages, and 125cc 50+ years combined race,  Awesome!

The evo riders didn’t disappoint us either, these boys really know how to ham it up, as Phill Bell number 19, and Brett Downes number 67  showed us in the Pre 78 and Evolution 125cc race,   they powered on the track at one stage leaving the rest of the riders in the wake of their dust.  What a pleasant surprise it was to see Steve New number 9, step off his 490 Maico and onto his BSA Matisse, and even better to watch him pass that chequered flag first in the Pre 75 Four Stroke, is it possible Steve might start a trend amongst the other evo riders?

The whole day was absolutely brilliant, you get to see some of the best looking bikes at these races from the Triumph Matisse, Husqvarna, Suzuki, CZ, Yamaha’s and Honda’s there all here,

And there all humming a different tune, all riders both men and women gave it there best, we saw a few falls during the course of the day, but they all escaped without any physical injury, dignity being the only casualty. The second round is on May the 28th and if the first round is anything to go on I can hardly wait.

New faces from all over places, exciting races, lots of thrills and a few spills what a day! Vintage Motor Cross, I love it!
